Orbitals

Here's a cute orbital dynamics simulator: http://phet.colorado.edu/sims/my-solar-system/my-solar-system_en.html Try some of the presets, or make your own system. Ain't gravity fun?! I just wish you could specify the periods and eccentricities, rather than the initial velocity vectors... h/t: Quinn

The art of the joke

Owen: "Hey, Daddy, why did the chicken cross the road?" Me: "I don't know, why did the chic--" Owen: "With cars on it!" Me: "Wow, that was funny..." Owen: "But it had shorts on its head and then fruit on its head and then the chicken fell in the gutter. Isn't that a funny story?" Me: "..."

Blast from the past

Here's a fun picture from Owen's undergrad days back at Berkeley. He was okay at classical mechanics. He came into his own later on in Quantum I and II.

home, sick

by erin Marcus has been battling a nasty cold for the last few days, and yesterday I caught it too. This means our activities today involve trying to recover while, at the same time, harnessing Owen's seemingly boundless energy. During Mar-Mar's nap, we constructed our tallest tower yet. All this typing has made me tired... think it's time to sleep on the couch while O-man watches Milo & Otis for the 800th time.
