Or instead of assassinated on Saturday, they'd call him a Muslim, radical socialist hell bent on destroying America.
Think on that for a second. George Bush was an anti-intellectual, draft-dodging former alcoholic. This is what he was, as a matter of record. Yet these facts ended up being a non-issue in 2004. Today, our president is a Christian moderate and not only is it okay to label him a Muslim radical, a good fraction of the country believes this deep in their heart. Somehow this is perfectly okay.
I think I'd be much more comfortable if those people would just be honest and say, "You know, I'm simply not comfortable with a black president. I'd rather vote for a former pro-universal-healthcare, pro-choice, uber-rich Mormon than a Christian black man."
Buried on Sunday, back to work on Monday.
