Owen has out-of-town guests

We were all packed into a car driving out to dinner with our cousins Steph and Matt. At one point we were all laughing at something funny that Matt said. After the laughing died down a bit, Owen started cracking up. I asked him why he was laughing and he said, "I'm just laughing because my email was funny!" When Steph and Matt went back to their hotel, Owen asked, "When are Stephanie and Matt coming back? Stephanie is a lovely name." When Owen first saw Matt in the hotel parking lot he pointed at him and said, "This is my favorite...stop sign!" He was actually pointing at a blue stop sign behind Matt.

from the backseat, owen says to marcus (who is overly tired and crying): "marcus, you don't need to scream and cry. it's hurting my ears and it's dangerous while mommy is driving. come ON! you can do it! just be brave and play with your toy. we're almost home. i can't concentrate on my book with all this shrieking. it's okay, mar. i know you're tired, but see, i'm not crying." awesome.

A View from myTraining Walk (by Erin): II

Saturday morning I snuck out of the house before anyone else was awake. I set out for my walk at 5:30am, just as the sun was making it's way over the ridge. Life with two little boys means that I rarely get time alone, so this peaceful training walk was quite a treat. The jaunt totaled 7.25miles and took a little over 2 hours. Also a treat to come home to a smiling bunch of boys and head out for a family day at the waterpark! Sunny skies over Waikiki (across the football field at Punahou)

Many of you already know that I've registered to walk 60 miles in 3 days to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. For the next four months, I'll be preparing my body and mind for the challenge. Also, I've committed to raise $2500 for the cause. I've decided to walk this October to honor my late Aunt Margaret, an 18 year survivor of the disease. More information on my motivation and the walk can be found here: 3-day . Please consider lending support by donating, volunteering, or simply spreading the word to friends and family. Yesterday I completed a 5 mile walk around the Diamond Head Crater, and I'll do 3 more miles (probably pushing a double stroller) today. I thought it'd be fun to share some photos from the training walks so you can join me in the journey. Here's the first of many: Diamond Head Lighthouse at sunset

Owen and the hair

Daddy likes it short. Mommy and the rest of the island like it long. They win...for now :) Note: The MarMar post has been updated with a recent picture.

dining updates

marcus has declared throughout the islands, "i am a BIG BOY!" he decided about two weeks ago (much to mommy's chagrin) that he's officially done nursing and taking a bottle. the boy will only drink from a sippy cup and wants to eat what we're eating. he can single-handedly devour a bagel with cream cheese, eats avocados by the quarter, and loves mommy's chicken-pot-pie and spinach-prosciutto frittatas. anything frozen (peas, blueberries, grapes, watermelon, mango) is ono grinds in his book too. don't worry, he still loves the poi :) perhaps there is one thing we won't be able to find on the mainland...

day at the zoo

it's been crazy hot here the last two weeks. i've taken to getting the boys out of the house after marcus' morning nap so we can enjoy the nice breeze and get some fresh air. today we spent the hottest part of the day at the zoo - luckily the zoo is quite shady! here are a few photos of our outing, and, yes, i did dress the boys alike today - SO FUN! also noteworthy, is this was our first visit to the zoo where we saw ALL the animals. we even skipped the playground and instead finished the outing with an ice cream sandwich from ABC store. marcus checks out the elephants we got to see the elephant session with the zoo keeper shady break in the keiki (children's) zoo owen's beautiful barn. fyi, "the door up top is for the rooster" marcus makes off with the foam "7". he's a big fan of picking things up and crawling with them clenched in his teeth. owen pets his favorite goat
